Why We Created a Non-Profit to Organize Alonda Villa’s Resident Ownership Effort

Our main committee ran into many problems attempting to move forward in formally organizing and working with the current owner of the park, various contractors, and government offices.  It was discovered during our initial free consultation with an attorney that the individual private citizens on our main committee handling the money were considered legally personally liable for any money being handled.

A motion was raised and seconded to look into becoming some sort of non-profit organization.  Information was obtained and vigorous debate was had over the information obtained and the actions to be taken.

It was at the next meeting the motion was raised and seconded to form the committee into a small non-profit organization for the sole purpose to move forward in organizing Alonda Villa into a resident owned cooperative.  The motion passed unanimously.

Necessary paperwork was filed with the state and on July 1, 2025 the State of Washington officially recognized ALONDA VILLA AQUISITION ASSOCIATION [sic*] as a non-profit organization for the purpose organizing Alonda Villa into a resident owned cooperative.  The individuals handling money are no longer personally liable for said funds, as the are funds now officially belong to the non-profit organization.  The non-profit organization is now able to officially accept donations in order to operate and achieve its purpose.  ALONDA VILLA ACQUISITION ASSOCIATION is now able to operate more effectively as an organization to meet the purpose, needs, and goals of turning Alonda Villa MHP into a resident owned cooperative.

*Side note: we are looking to have the typo from our forms filed with the state to be fixed to be spelled correctly to “Acquisition”.
